I screened all the Best Picture nominations, as well as many of the nominations. I enjoyed seeing all Best Picture nominations, and felt some were sadly omitted from contention. Yes, getting a nomination is all about marketing, advertising, promotion, and more; this is similar to many awards ceremonies. One of my favorite categories are for the short films; I’m happy to see people celebrating these works of art.
I was upset some films were snubbed from nominations. The categories I would’ve liked to have seen nominated are in parentheses:
“The Farewell” (supporting actress, screenplay, director)
“Hustlers” (supporting actress, cinematography)
“The Last Black Man in San Francisco” (cinematography, screenplay, score, picture, director)
“Midsommar” (actress, supporting actor, costume, cinematography, production design)
“The Peanut Butter Falcon” (supporting actor, screenplay)
“Portrait of a Lady on Fire” (actress, production design, hair/makeup, sound mixing, score)
“Uncut Gems” (actor, supporting actor, screenplay, sound editing)
“Us” (actress, sound editing, costume, hair/makeup)
